In honor of Fred and his love of adventure, the outdoors, and the Colorado trails, a group led by Leslee Hampel, Fred’s wife, and Sharon Muenchow, close friend, are hiking/running the 486 mile Colorado Trail. The adventure began on the first anniversary of Fred’s death. The goal is to complete the trek by the end of summer 2022.
This journey is also a fundraising expedition for the Fred Hampel Memorial Scholarship at Colorado Mountain College (CMC). Fred was a cornerstone of CMC’s business program. He was a talented teacher, mentor, and friend - always there to lend a hand, give encouragement, or simply listen. Fred played a key role in the effort to bring Bachelor’s Degrees to CMC, helping to change the face of higher education across rural Colorado. As a tribute to Fred’s memory, a scholarship fund has been established at CMC in his name. A donation to the fund will enable CMC to establish an endowed scholarship to help students reach their educational and life goals. In this way, Fred’s legacy will have a lasting impact on generations of learners, in perpetuity. To donate, visit the CMC Foundation website. Select “Fred Hampel Memorial Scholarship” from the “I’d like my donation to go towards…” dropdown menu. Gifts in any amount are most welcome and a fitting tribute to Fred. |
